Sabrina where are you?

OUTLINE

  • 8.30am arrive in Saint Petersburg. We leave our comfy sleeper for a noisy, cold, dirty, smokey city
  • Discuss methods to reach our hostel – decide to march
  • Arrive sweaty and tired at the small crumbling doorway entrance to hostel Sabrina
  • Enjoy tea and jammy swiss roll while awaiting an English speaking taxi driver to take us to another Sabrina hostel. This one has a singing shower (?)
  • 45 sleepy minutes later the crease faced, leather cap wearing crazy taxi driver shows up and we weave through busy traffic to our real hostel
  • No visa registration, it’s a 10 day Russian holiday
  • Explore the city to shake our dark first impressions of the district around the train station. We walk and walk but nothing really changes

Tonnes of Lemsip and a frantic march with a huge pack will do wonders for a cold.

Bums in train stations are the same the world over but in Russia the police are meaner.

Jay can’t map read.

Russian people are either stern and a bit rude or crazy and really nice but mos of the time they are all drunk.

St. Petersburg – Venice it ain’t.

Heating inside Russian homes is always on Max, this explains the huge stripey, puffing chimneys which dominate the skyline.

Sarah’s Russian is ace.

Russian tv looks 40 years old and is really over the top.

Driving is total madness and crossing the road is a leap of faith.

St. Petersburg is busy.

I laughed harder than I had in a long time

Last night was spent in the company of almost all of my Mums side of our family. We were in Liverpool to see a Christmas comedy spectacular at the Unity theater. After a nice meal with my Mum, Dad and Nan we took up our seats alongside my uncle in the venue and awaited the main event. Out strutted the golden tuxedo-ed host for the evening; my mothers youngest brother Tez. The next two hours is a blur of hilarious, manic, madcap character comedy. I hadn’t seen my uncle for a long time and won’t again for a while but I can’t think of a better memory to be stamped on my brain as I wave goodbye to the family. Thanks Tez.

It’s against my very strict personal policy to link to publicising pages and reviews within my blog but with a bit of luck the man himself will leave a nice comment below along with directions to areas of the web where you could investigate his hilarity further, and at your own valition.

This next bit is especially for the sneaker freeks and one in particular – Jeremy Shortball. Check out these Bad Mothers!

They are Adidas Originals Americana Lux high Lone Wolf  limited edition animal pack: black. Please note the faux wolfs mane collar , the super soft suede detailing betwixt the brands traditional three stripes and on top of the toe. Also the reinforced nosing piece highlighs these beauties robust nature. For me though the best feature is the the howling wolf stamped onto the outside heel of both feet. All in all a stylish and understated shoe with lavish detailing.

That’s the spiel and as you can tell I really, really love them already. So much so that I almost don’t want to take them out of the box. I have to though. I bought them specifically to wear around Eastern Europe and other cold and snow prone areas of the world in early 2009. They are big and hard and also good looking that’s why they stood out. I’m going to leave size 11 footprints all over Russia so I figure they may as well look good. And in these: Easy.

A window onto my:

thoughts, adventures, friends, hopes, fears, likes, dislikes, interests, beliefs, hobbies, goals, troubles, dreams and woes. In short my life. Go on have a little read it's bound to make you feel better about yours.
